Just For Self-Defense
The 57-year-old man who was in a coma after being exposed to a deadly poison in his hotel room has told his brother it was just "for self-defense".
"He just confirmed that it was not intended for anybody," Erich
Bergendorff said in a telephone interview from his home north of San Diego in Escondido "It was something that would be used for his own purposes, for self-defense."
Ricin is illegal for individuals to make or possess any reason. Saying it was for self-defense is ludicrous.
Police say they also found firearms in the room, along with castor
beans — from which ricin is derived — and four "anarchists cookbooks"
in the room, marked at sections describing how to make ricin. But
officials have said they have not found evidence in the motel room or
elsewhere of contamination and have downplayed the possibility that
Roger Bergendorff posed a threat.
Nope, just a patriotic American attempting to exercise his Second Amendment rights and being oppressed by our fascist government. I really hate the MSM... really. They'll downplay domestic terrorism because 'that's what the police told them'... but call the police and the administration liars and incompetents when the story disturbs their narrative.
Gals... Want A Free Whistle?
The Tourism Ministry of Phuket is going to distribute free whistles to all female tourists after a recent murder.
The whistles are part of a campaign to increase
security on Phuket, one of Thailand's most popular tourist
destinations, after the shocking killing of 27-year-old Hanna Charlotta
Backlund of Sweden, said Tourism Minister Weerasak Kohsurat.
How about giving out free handguns for their visit instead? Just sayin'
CFO Of Clinton Library Building Company Goes Missing
Let the conspiracy theories commence! The CFO of the company which built the Clinton Library has gone missing.
"He may be under some kind of compulsion ... some
kind of blackmail, that's a scenario you could dream up," said his
brother, Roger Glasgow. "We're not suggesting any of these scenarios
because we just don't know. But it does open up a Pandora's box of
possibilities."
The company is undergoing an audit, but says that there is no money missing.
Weeks before his disappearance, his wife Melinda
found him pacing in their kitchen as the end-of-the-year audit period
approached. Dillard's had sent "absolutely relentless" auditors to
review CDI's books, she said.
Nothing to see here, move along. He just went "walkabout". It will be interesting if the Obama campaign mentions this at all to draw attention away from his ties to Rezko.

I would doubt there is any direct connection with Clinton; but on the theory that Clinton would attract people just as sleazy as himself, there is probably some hanky panky going on with the books which Glasgow was afraid would be exposed.

I completely agree. The internet conspiracies are going to start up though, you can count on it. If Obama were as sneaky as the Clintons, I'd expect a sub-rosa campaign to make a connection between them and Glasgow.

I've been looking for the Clintons to push that angle, nothing makes them feel better and look better than crazies attacking them.
In the 90s, if you said anything bad about them people always, and I mean always, always, always, said something like, "Oh, so you think they killed Vince Foster and had the State Police kill their political rivals and... blah, blah, blah-freaking conspiracy theory, blah".
Just like the people these days when you say something like, "I don't like McCain because of his stance on illegal immigration." will reply, "Oh, so you have McCain Derangement Syndrome, huh?"
It's a beautiful, fact-free and fair-play-free way of discrediting your opposition.

Their specialty. If Obama's camp doesn't start something, you're probably right... somebody in the Clinton camp will start their own whispering campaign just so they have something to cry "Foul!" against.

... You Might Be A Nurse
My son is entering Nursing School this summer and I wanted to share these with him... most of these have been around a while so attribution is impossible. They're a takeoff on Jeff Foxworthy's "You Might Be a Redneck" schtick.
If you've ever spent more money on a stethoscope than a video camera... you might be a nurse.
If you mumble to yourself, "Great veins!" when looking at the arms of complete strangers... you might be a nurse.
If you believe that the more equipment a doctor carries, the newer they are... you might be a nurse.
If you wash your hands before going to the bathroom... you might be a nurse.
If you ever get scared when a child is quiet... you might be a nurse.
If you've ever been tempted to choke the life out of someone who thinks the night shift is boring because, "All the patients do is sleep"... you might be a nurse.
Conservative Belle And "This Blog Supports..."
Via doubleplusundead and the Palm Sunday edition of Links Around The Moronosphere, Conservative Belle has a great post on why we shouldn't support politicians who don't follow conservative principles. Read it and leave a comment to show your support.
"Rush Democrats" Are A Bad IdeaWatching the Democratic primaries go through their meltdown has really been fun and it's not over yet. But something has been bothering me about conservatives switching parties to vote for Hillary in the Democratic primaries. Even if they're registered as an Independent, voting for someone you don't want to win is a bad idea.
I understand the strategic reasons for doing it and certainly can't dispute the results. This has been as divisive a campaign season as I've ever seen, especially for the Democrats. Keeping Hillary in has helped keep focus on the major flaws of the entire progressive movement. This is fine as far as it goes... the more scrutiny the better. I don't think Obama would have been hit nearly as hard on the Rezko connection, his wife's blunders, or his "spiritual adviser" if Hillary wasn't there to stoke the flames of identity politics.
I'm also going to avoid the, "Be careful what you wish for, you might get it" reasoning. You've probably also heard, "We need to be better than they are" speeches, "They do it too" excuses, "Ends justifies the means" platitudes, and the always-ready standby "That's politics" rationalization. All of those have a measure of truth to them and are worthy of consideration. None are very convincing to me however.
This is the biggest reason it is a mistake to cross-over and meddle in the Democratic primary. One of the early statistics that so disheartened Republicans and convinced many that they had no chance in November was the sheer number of Democratic voters. This trend has continued throughout the primary season... Democratic turnout has been pretty consistently twice the Republicans, or higher. That is unlikely to change because the Republican nomination is clinched and the Democrats' is still being fiercely contested.
The media and the nutroots see this huge turnout as validation of the progressive movement and are emboldened. It makes the moonbats look more mainstream than they really are. With "Rush Democrats" adding to these numbers, it's going to be difficult to advance a conservative agenda. The progressives will feel stronger than they actually are and be less likely to give up an inch on any issue. With the encouragement of the MSM at every step, the meme will be, "We're the majority, look at the numbers we turned out in support of our agenda."
With the Republican Party already abandoning conservative principles, why would we conservatives make things harder on ourselves?

That Democratic turnout may be a fata morgana. A lot of it is the Obamaniks. If he's not nominated, then those people aren't going to vote for Hillary. Blacks won't be able to forgive her, and the rest won't be motivated to vote for her. If he is nominated, then at least some of his magic will be gone by November, so he won't get that turnout either--but probably more than Hillary
How any conservative could get themselves to vote for Hillary is beyond me. Don't they realize they're making it easier for her to get to the White House? I can understand Ann Coulter's statement--if you have a choice between a fake Democrat and a real Democrat, you may as well vote for the real one--but not this latest thing. It will be the height of irony is Hillary wins in November, because of the help she is now receiving from the VRWCTM

Yep, I think the "be careful what you wish for" caution is certainly valid and believe that most political machinations backfire to one degree or another... "Law of Unintended Consequences" and all that.
Beyond that, if conservatives are going to claim the moral high ground (which we do by pointing to the practical results of conservative policy), then behaving dishonestly undermines that. Vote for what you believe, not what is popular. Vote for who you believe in, not who you think is electable. Vote your conscience, not a strategy. Let the chips fall and deal with the reality.
That Democratic turnout may be a fata morgana.
Ok, I admit I had to google that, heh... nice.

Tips From Eliot Spitzer
Ok, I'm just wrong for posting this, I admit it. I don't really care about the whole controversy and wasn't going to post on it. And on a Sunday no less... I'm going to hell.
It's funny though.

"Fellow Republicans" my left pinkie toe. The main thrust of the article is right, I expect there will be an attempt to disrupt the elections by al Qaeda as I've said before. That doesn't make him any less of a hypocrite.

It depends on how smart the AQ strategists are. A Republican victory is (in my view) beneficial for them, because Bush's policies give them traction in the Moslem world. George Bush has been the best recruiter AQ has had in the last eight years, and they are going to miss him. A Democratic victory, on the other hand, will result in removal of the lot of the irritants that AQ propanganda can fuel itself it on.
Therefore, from the AQ perspective, reduced US combat deaths are good in the short term, and lack of terrorist successes inside the US are good, because that will be seen as evidence the efforts of the Bush administration are actually working. Best of all will be a terrorist plot interrupted by the Bush administration. (I think it certain the AQ higher ups would purposely betray a cell here in the US if they feel it serves their overall purpose.) A successful terrorist attack, OTOH, would be a roll of the dice. It might be seen as proof that Bush has failed in the war on terror; or it might be the catalyst for a response similar to what happened after 9/11,for people to decide they need the Republicans to be sure that the US is tough on AQ; and it would probably provoke people around the world to turn more sympathetic to the US, which AQ definitely does not want.
So I would predict a lull in AQ sponsored terrorism during September or October. Of course that assumes that the appropriate people in AQ are as intelligent as me

The "Bush Doctrine as Recruiting Tool" is not an accurate meme. Yes, they do use it with some occasional success, but far more are turning away from extremism. Look at Anbar Province in Iraq, the Iranian dissident movement, pro-American leaders elected in France and Germany, and the despairing tone of intercepted communications recently. They do not want a Republican in office.
Fortunately, they're not as smart as you and are unable to exploit the majority of their strategies. They lucked out in Spain and Spain is paying the price for that. Their appeasement of Islamic Radicals was an attempt to avoid further acts of terrorism... it hasn't quite worked out that way. Look for Spain and most of the EU to become more pro-US because the Islamic Radicals have become a huge problem for them.

Stash is right, the "Bush is causing more jihadi recruiting" meme is inaccurate, people have to think they have a chance at winning or they're much less likely to go to battle, and the jihadis are aching for recruits. Terrorism and guerrilla warfare are heavily reliant on a favorable political climate and a large number of willing recruits.
The crappy recruiting pool the jihadis have is evidence that they are in bad shape. When they're using children and mentally handicapped people as bombers, most people are going to be horrified/disgusted by it, and the jihadis hurt themselves politically, which then defeats the whole purpose of terrorism/guerrilla warfare.
Sites are added to the Moronosphere and Gerbil Nation blogrolls by request. I got everyone on there who was there when they were made, so email me if you know of a new addition. Some of these are on the main blogroll as well and will remain duplicated.
The main blogroll is at my own discretion. I gratefully accept suggestions by email, but I don't do blogroll exchanges. If a site is there, it's because I personally recommend it. If it's one that is not updated often, check out the archives and you'll probably see why it's there. I will rarely remove a site from the main blogroll once it's there.
