Economists see US avoiding recession
But all is not lost... they find a way to look on the "bright side":
Glad to see they're still looking out for us. I would just ignore this as typical behavior from our 4th estate/5th column "deciders", but the United States economy is vastly influenced by confidence. Investors, Consumers, and Producers with confidence will make the economy grow even when things don't go perfectly. Shake that confidence and it doesn't matter how well our industries run, jobs increase, crops get harvested, etc... the economy is going to take a hit. The MSM intentionally tries to shake confidence in the U.S. economy trying to damage the administration. It's just one more reason to despise the media.
*UPDATE* I figured out why they had to print some good news today... I hadn't looked at the stock market results yet. More on the Dow here. Heh.
*UPDATE X2* That certainly didn't last long. Imagine my surprise. Sigh.

- The whole Spitzer story. I started at Hot Air, but could have done it at Patterico's, Ace's, The Jawa Report, or LGF, among others. I didn't care when President Clinton got caught, just that he lied about it under oath. I agree with aphrael, enough is enough. If you're interested, there's plenty out there without my $0.02 worth.
- Via Allah, President Bush singing. Just like the dancing in Saudi Arabia, this type of political crap bores me. I understand that it's good for relations with whoever... that's why I'll never go into politics. I don't want good relations (except online of course, heh).
- There are so many manufactured controversies by this Democratic House and Senate that it's a wonder it still makes even the MSM headlines (no, not really. A lawsuit over a contempt citation from a subpoena about a legal function of the Executive Branch... feh. Add in baseball, drinking water, and 99 bajillion other red herrings and you have "the most ethical Congress ever".
- DRJ at Patterico's think her Word of the Day post is bad... I kind of liked it. I wouldn't touch this one though. Just sayin'
- California nanny-statism profiled over at Patterico's (I know, but I spent a lot of time over there yesterday and today on the Balko post which is definitely worth reading!! So, technically not part of this post... but go anyway, heh)

So how many trials are tainted by this? According to Human Rights First, all of them:
There was no systematic "torture and inhuman treatment" at Guantanamo and I don't believe there has been anywhere else. The interrogators I met while in the Army all spoke of incentive-based interrogation being the best long-term tool. The only reason to use harsh interrogation methods is for time-sensitive intelligence. Many detainees would come back a little worse-for-wear because they smoked too much (link is from my interview with Patterico in 2006) and ate too much pizza, never from physical interrogation.
This is just another attempt to smear the military, the administration, and the United States by an anti-American "rights group" and the MSM.

(Notice that the commander-in-chief portion is not within the quotation marks? I wonder what that's about? Creative quoting at its finest... gotta love the MSM.)
Anyway, I don't know what Senator Obama's real reasons are... they may be just as he has stated. I do believe Hillary is too ambitious to accept a VP position on an Obama ticket. If I'm wrong and she did decide to accept a VP slot, I agree with a lot of others that Michelle Obama had best take out some extra insurance, just in case. Why wouldn't she pick him even though she and Bill have publicly floated just that? Because she's also politically vindictive and sees Obama as pushing her out of turn. She was the presumptive nominee for the Democrats for so long that she figures it's hers by right.
Offering the VP slot to Obama is political gamesmanship... I'm just not sure Senator Obama realizes how convoluted the game can really get.

It's official. The UN Security Council has no crediblity left. The final nail in the coffin? Not this...
Mottaki said that the new round of sanctions lacked "technical and legal," justification and would discredit the Security Council.
But this:
At the prodding of the U.S. and its European allies, the U.N. Security Council passed a third round of sanctions on Iran Monday ordering assets to be frozen of additional Iranian officials and companies with links to the country's nuclear and missile program, and for the first time banned trade with Iran in some goods that have both civilian and military use. [emphasis mine]
The first time? Really? So that means that Russia, China, France, and whoever else is making money from Iran will have to start ignoring a ban just now? Because we know how well that worked with Saddam. Did they ever stop ignoring the trade bans with him? Seems like Saddam was getting weapons and equipment after several Security Council bans.
I'd say their credibility has been gone... events with Iran just keep confirming that.

Good thing nobody tried this in Guantanamo. Just a brilliant escape plan with outstanding execution.
Authorities say Mas Selamat, 47, had been taken from his cell to a room where he was waiting for his family to make a scheduled visit. He fled after being granted permission to visit the washroom.
Just brilliant.

In the British Police Force there is apparently an investigation into possible infiltrations by Al Qaeda. At least there was.
MI5 agents are watching the four suspects — who work at different police stations around London — and gathering evidence needed to make arrests.
If these are infiltrators, won't they just stop their activities until the heat is off? Or just take off and return home to fight another way? Whoever leaked this story should be shot. The staff at the Daily Mail responsible for publishing this should be arrested for interfering with an investigation and possibly endangering national security.
I hate the traitorous mainstream media. An investigation spanning over 2 1/2 years is probably blown now.
